Darrien picked up her love for writing while attending Tennessee State University and it was those experiences, which inspired her debut novel, All That and A Bag of Chips in 2001. She has four published works by Strebor Books Int'l Inc. and a lot of new and exciting projects scheduled for future release.
Darrien's other literary accomplishments includes Been There Done That , which made Essence Magazine's Best-seller's List in 2003 as the sequel to her debut novel. What Goes Around Comes Around followed up in July 2004 as part III of her series and it was so successful it made Essence Magazine's Best-Seller's List on two separate occasions. The fourth novel in her series titled, When Hell Freezes Over was released in September 2005 with hopes of following in the path of the two previous titles.
Darrien is a member of A Place Of Our Own Online Reading Club as well as Authors Supporting Authors Positively Online Group. Darrien has been featured in several periodicals, which includes, The City Paper and the Nashville Tennessean. She was also a featured guest with popular Atlanta DJ, Porsche Foxx on V103 Radio Station on her “Issues” segment in 2002.
Fifteen-year-old Kane Alexander is growing up in a single parent home with her father and two younger brothers after her mother is put in a mental hospital. Her father is forced to take on two jobs to support his family, and the responsibility of caring for the younger siblings is placed on Kane. She loves her family, but can’t help but feel like she’s missing out on life as a teenager.
When Kane shares her feelings with her father, he has no sympathy, telling her that she should put family ahead of her social life. Stunned by his reaction, Kane decides to run away; however, she doesn’t make it far. Instead, she ends up on the front porch of her new neighbors, who don’t hesitate to take her in. Will Kane and her father be able to work out their differences?
